Limoges Is the préfecture of the Haute-Vienne département, and the administrative capital of the Limousin région.
The city is famously known worldwide for it's fine porcelain but is less well know for it's enamels and production of oak barrel which are used for cognac storage.
Limoges sits astride the river Vienne which is a tributary of the more famous Loire. One of the outstanding buildings in the city is Gare Bénédictins. This impressive Art Déco showpiece was built in 1929 of reinforced concrete and stained glass. The clock tower is topped off with a giant copper-covered dome.
